Winter Retreat

I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I just had one of the best weekends of my life. SO much fun! So much good stuff! So amazing and unforgettable.

Best things of Winter Retreat (not in order…just what I came up with):

1. Being able to go - I thought for a few days that I might not be able to go…but I was :)
2. Finding out what happens when I only get 2 hours of sleep…frankly, it’s fun and scary.
3. One particular conversation sticks out (this is not exact, just approximate):
Girl in youth group: Why did Jesus have to die? (Her question was something like what was the point of Jesus dying…she knew the story but not the reason)
Another girl in youth group: well, when he died, he went to hell for 3 days and so we didn’t have to. (again, something along those lines, not that exactly)
First girl: Oh! So wait…we can still go to heaven even if we sin? (I about fell over when I heard that…she had no clue what it meant for Jesus to die on the cross for our sins and how He took the punishment)
Leader: Yes.
End of story: next morning she became a Christian…probably one of the most amazing and memorable things I have ever seen…this was probably the best moment of camp for me…I hesitate to share this for privacy’s sake, but I think she wouldn’t mind since it’s not personal…and if she reads this, I hope she gets that I wrote it because it’s amazing and will always stick out in my mind as a story I will love and cherish
4. Snow…the best way to hang out with youth is throwing snowballs at them, building snow men, and sledding down hills in huge groups…great time
5. Lyova is going to be so confused about his role at camp
6. The car ride there and back…I was in the young boys car and had a great time listening to their random chatter and fun and arguing over the radio and seats
7. McDonald’s all attached…that was an interesting experience
8. Shower schedules that worked exceptionally well and prevented any arguing over showers
9. (Not) doing homework…despite the fact that I took some along
10. Seeing what I am attached to…I was a leader but got just as much out of the lessons as any of the kids…amazing lessons
11. Gaining some confidence back…I needed that
12. Working with Shelly…she’s great to work with
13. Meal duty…as much as this was work, it was just as fun
14. A break from life…life’s been tough recently, and I haven’t felt as joyful and happy in several months
15. Getting to know aggro lady and the other people working at the camp and then making fun of Wes for his fear of her since she’s perfectly harmless
16. Stories and memories to last a LONG time
17. Seeing the results of my assistance in youth group as four kids come to Christ
18. Seeing those four kids take communion right after becoming Christians
19. Taking communion myself and being reminded yet again how much God loves me and has given for me…I definitely teared up as the bread and juice was given to me
20. Okay…I’m stopping here and saying that everything else falls under this point
